HOW I EDIT MY INSTAGRAM PICTURES
Can I just start out by saying that up until a few months ago, I thought I was going to go crazy trying to find the right way to edit my pictures.
I didn’t understand how all of these huge Instagrammer’s had such gorgeous pictures and a cohesive feed, yet here I was with pictures all over the place and zero consistency. It was a complete mystery to me.
And me being the person that I am, I had to figure it out. I had to crack the Instagram picture code. So I spent months, yes months editing, tweaking, and and then changing my editing and tweaking again. You can see my trial and error period if you scroll back through my Instagram feed and notice all of the inconsistencies from picture to picture.
Side note: This is not work that I am proud of, but it has gotten me to where I am today so I leave it there to keep a reminder of how far I’ve come in the Instagram editing game lol.
I tried the filter options provided by Instagram, I tried VSCO, Snapseed, Canva, A Color Story, etc. I tried all the things…
But finally I was able to figure out exactly how to edit my Instagram pictures in a way that doesn’t white out my skin tone (or turn me yellow for that matter) and didn’t make me look over-edited or glossy. So trust me when I say that I have the man hours and experience to back up this blog post about Instagram picture editing that I am going to share with you today.
TAKING INSTAGRAM PICTURES
When it comes to actually taking my Instagram pictures, I am usually just using my iPhone, but occasionally I will bust out my camera (Cannon Rebel T6i) to get some glam shots with the blurred out background and high quality detail. Both cameras still produce great pictures and turn out amazing with my photo editing.
APPS FOR EDITING INSTAGRAM PICTURES
There are a TON of photo editing apps out there, and as you read above, I have basically downloaded and tried each and every single one of them. What I found is that a lot of them do the same exact thing, or didn’t do what I needed it to do, which is what lead me from one app to another on my Instagram picture editing journey.
Now, there only a few apps that I use when it comes to editing my Instagram pictures. Occasionally I will use Retouch if I need to remove items from my pictures or Facetune if I need to edit selfies, but I have actually started using them even less now that I use Lightroom to edit my Instagram because it has most of the features as the other two.
Lightroom is a free app, and basically a lighter (and way easier to use) version of Photoshop. I absolutely love that everything can be done right from my phone and one single app as opposed to switching back and forth for different features.
To anyone who is on Instagram and wanting to step up their picture editing skills to create awesome aesthetics and cohesive Instagram feeds, I definitely recommend downloading the Lightroom app.
HOW I EDIT MY INSTAGRAM PICTURES IN LIGHTROOM
In just a click of a button that preset is applied to the Instagram picture I have just uploaded and usually the picture is all set and ready to be posted to my Instagram feed.
Occasionally I need to make adjustments to my pictures after I apply the preset. This is super easy to do and only takes a minute or two. Sometimes I will need to tweak the exposure if the picture was taken in the shade or a darker room. If my skin tone is off because the lighting was too bright or too dark I will have to adjust that in the “color” settings too, but that is usually the extent of it. All it takes a few quick and easy steps to get my pictures exactly how I want them, and then they go on the ‘Gram.
LIGHTROOM PRESETS FOR INSTAGRAM
My presets have honestly been such a saving grace for me when it comes to Instagram. I actually even use the same ones now for my blog pictures as well because I love them so much. Plus this makes all of my pictures across all of my platforms (Instagram, Blog, Pinterest, etc) cohesive and easy to identify.
They have saved me so much time, and truly been a game changer for my content. All it takes is just a few clicks (rather than continuously adjusting every single editing setting) and voila, beautiful pictures are immediately ready to be shared.
HOW TO GET MY LIGHTROOM PRESETS FOR INSTAGRAM
Are you a blogger or just someone looking to create some Instagram worthy shots, but don’t like the complexity of having to go through and manually edit each and every single picture or the generic looks of Instagram filters? Then you are in the right place my friend. I have two pre-made mobile Lightroom presets that you can purchase and instantly download and use in the free Lightroom app on your phone.
