I want to preface this by saying that this will probably be unconventional goal setting tips to most of you, maybe even the opposite of what you have heard.

I was listening to a podcast with my husband the other day, even though I am not particularly a fan of the host, I loved the piece of advice he gave about goals. So here I am relaying that message to you with my own twist and tips. Alright here we go...

  1. Write it down - Writing out your goals increases the likelihood you achieve them by 50%, so get out your pen and paper and get to writing!

  2. Put a time on it - Can you imagine choosing a vacation destination, but not knowing when the plane was going to land there? That is sort of like not putting a time frame on your goals. You must know where you are going and when you will get there.

  3. Make it controllable and actionable - This is perhaps one of the most important factors and where I provide a more controversial goal setting tactic. When you set your goals make it something you can control and take action on 100%. For example you can't control loosing 30 lbs in 3 months, but you can control committing to exercising and healthy eating habits in 3 months. Do you see the difference?

  1. Put forth the effort - The reason your goal must be actionable is because you need to consistently put for the effort to make it happen and get to where you want to be with your life, health, business, etc.

  2. Be held accountable - As much as we love to think we don't need help, we do. Find someone to help hold you accountable on a daily/weekly basis.

  3. Reflect daily - Always keep your eye on the prize (your goal) keep it in the front of your mind at all times. Whether you're keeping a journal or mental note to track your progress, you need to do something to make sure you're staying on track and remembering what you are working towards.

When you put these 6 steps into action you will without a doubt make your goals a reality. You will need commitment and dedication to making a the change in your life. Mindset is just as important as action when it comes to creating goals and habits to reach them.
