HOW TO MAKE YOUR SPRAY TAN LAST
So I am pretty new to the whole world of spray tans because I could never find one that was toxin free. They all seemed to have parabens and other bad ingredients that I didn’t want anywhere near my body. And to be completely honest, I was a little worried about turning oranges or massive streaks
One day a few months back I was approached by Gold Mountain Beauty a few months back to partner with them, I was pretty excited/nervous to try their Instant Self Tanner and Tan Extender. Needless to say I have pretty much been hooked every since then.
In my few months of using self tanner I have learned a few tricks that I want to share with you about how to actually get the tan to last. If you talk to most people they will say that their tan only lasts 3 days or so, but I have been able to get mine to easily stay on for 7+ days just by tweaking a few things in my personal care routine.
The first thing you want to do is to make sure that you shower and exfoliate right before you use your self tanner. This removes all the dead skin that could potentially flake off after application, leaving your skin spotty.
The next step after you have showered and exfoliated is to make sure that you moisturize with a good lotion or body butter, so the skin is hydrated and absorbs the self tanner evenly. Having dry skin patches or areas with dryer skin than others (knees, elbows, etc) can absorb the tanner more, making them appear darker. Womp, womp, womp.
Once you have moisturized, it’s time to apply the self tanner. They usually come in the form of a spray, but sometimes as a lotion. Either way, make sure you have a good mitt to help spread it out and rub it in evenly. A good mitt vs a bad mitt makes all the difference when it comes to spots and streaks.
This is a personal preference but I apply pretty generously, typically 2-3 sprays each time.
After you have applied and evened out the self tanner, don’t wipe it off or dress until its completely dry! You also need to avoid getting wet for at least 24 hours (I usually wait 48).
For the remaining days that you want your spray tan to last, you should be lotioning up or moisturizing 1-2 times each day. If you are using Gold Mountain Beauty, I absolutely love their Tan Extender Moisturizer because it smells and works amazing. Stay consistent with this so skin doesn’t dry out, flake off, and cause spotting.
For the next few days you need to limit your time in the shower/bath. Keep them short, sweet, and to the point. Also, don’t scrub or exfoliate your skin until your tan has already started the fading process and you’re ready to re-apply.
When it comes to shaving, try not to press the razor too hard against the skin and switch to a razor with a good moisturizing strip on it.
If you notice any unevenness or certain parts getting spotty use the Tan Extender Moisturizing or another lotion that is enhanced with self tanner to help even everything out.
After following these steps and taking care of your spray tan, you will see a drastic increase in the length your tan will last AND save money on the amount of products you have to buy because you’ll be using them less frequently.
